  • NJ Teaching Certificate or its reciprocal

High School President:

The President of the St. Mary of the Assumption High School in Elizabeth, Union County, New Jersey is appointed by the Archbishop of Newark and reports to the Members and the Board of Trustees. The President is responsible for policies of the School to assure its Catholicity and long-range viability. The President is the ultimate authority within the school. The President has both the authority and the responsibility to ensure the following:

  • Catholic identity: Faithful to the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church and to the directives of the Roman Catholic Church as interpreted by the Archbishop. The President and the Principal promote the essential characteristics and fundamental values of the Catholic School.
  • Leadership: The President and Principal, assisted by the Board of Trustees, provide personal and visible support on issues related to the mission and goals of the School.
  • Policies and Programs: The President approves all policies in marketing and development and assures they are consistent with Archdiocesan policies.
  • Planning: The President is responsible for the development and implementation of the long-range strategic plan consistent with the mission of the School and the policies of the Archdiocese.
  • Institutional Agreement: The President directs marketing efforts, recruitment strategies, fund-raising programs, and alumni activities.
  • Public Representations: In the public forum the President personally meets with selected constituencies to improve School community relations.
  • Board of Trustees: The President is a voting members of the Board of Trustees.
  • Fiscal Management: The Board and the President work with the Principal to finalize the annual budget which is then submitted by the President to the Members.
  • Personnel: The Principal with the approval of the President is responsible for the appointment of the assistant school administrators and all other members of the School staff.
  • Supervision: The President provides input to the Members and Board of Trustees about the performance of the Principal and delegates to the Principal the professional evaluation of other members of the school administration. The President is evaluated by the Members (via the Superintendent of Schools) with input from the Board of Trustees.
  • School Property and Facilities: The President provides for the safe operation and maintenance of the School property and facilities.
  • Such other duties as may be assigned.
