U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced the names of 335 schools identified by the U.S. Department of Education as the National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2015. The Archdiocese of Newark is pleased to announce that 4 of the 335 are Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Newark. The schools are as follows:

Mr. Robert Costello, Head of SchoolSince 2011, 17 Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Newark have been recognized as Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence. This means that 25% of our elementary schools have received this distinction. Previous awardees by year can be found at the links below.
Fifty non-public schools were among the awardees this year. Each state’s commissioner of education nominates public schools for the award, and CAPE (Council for American Private Education) nominates non-public schools. All winning schools will be honored at an awards ceremony November 9-10 in Washington, DC.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, “The Blue Ribbon Award recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.” The schools of the Archdiocese of Newark were recognized because of their overall academic excellence. According to CAPE, “They were selected because their test scores in reading and math placed them among the top-performing schools in the nation or state.”
“This honor recognizes your students’ accomplishments and the hard work and dedication that went into their success,” Duncan said in a video message to the awardees. “Your journey has taught you collaboration, intentional instruction, and strong relationships in school and with your community. You represent excellence-in vision, in implementation, and in results-and we want to learn as much as we can from you.”
